Suspicious fire in Nesquehoning

Police and fire officials in Nesquehoning are investigating a suspicious fire which was discovered at 221 West Catawissa Street Tuesday afternoon. The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. and due to a quick response by Nesquehoning, New Columbus and Hauto fire companies damage was held to a minimum. Reports from the scene indicate that the people living in the residence moved out, removing all of the contents but firefighters reportedly found a pot on the top of an activated burner on the kitchen stove. A state police fire marshal has been called to the scene. The street (SR209) was closed for several hours. The residence at 221 W. Catawissa St. is the middle of three units in the two story wood frame structure. Police officer Tim Wittke interviews a couple familiar with the fire scene.
