Food distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis. Distributions are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of each month.The Summit Hill Lions Club members assist with the packaging and distributions of the food boxes.Anyone wanting information about the pantry, or knowing someone who could use assistance, can contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604 or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.Shade Tree plansThe Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be celebrating the annual Arbor Day planting of trees in Summit Hill on Saturday, April 30. The Arbor Day ceremony will take place at the gazebo in Ludlow Park.Anyone interested in sponsoring a memorial or honorary tree can contact Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9644.The trees will be ordered in the next several weeks. Volunteers are always welcome to help plant and maintain the trees in the borough, and donations to support the efforts of the commission are also accepted.Historical societyThe Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the museum on East Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will be in charge of the business session.Members will be discussing the window display program that will take place at the museum, whereby the society will display historical artifacts, photos, etc. For Memorial Day through the 4th of July, a patriotic theme has been set for the display area. A wedding theme window is scheduled for later in the year (summer) while in the fall, a school theme will be used.Other topics of discussion tonight will be license plates, throws, books, framed photographs for the community center, a flea market, proposed names for memorial trees to be planted and the Eckley Miners Village.Future meetings are scheduled for May 18, June 15 and July 20.Tax office closedThe office of Tax Collector Alice Kane will be closed Friday, April 22, to observe Good Friday.Methodist ChurchThe Holy Thursday service for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge will be held in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church tomorrow at 7 p.m. A service of Holy Communion will be observed. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate.CoaldaleBorough officesCoaldale Borough offices will be closed on Good Friday, April 22, and will reopen on Monday, April 25. The borough tax collector's office also will be closed on Good Friday. Her regular hours are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.NesquehoningSt. Francis of AssisiHoly Week schedule for St. Francis of Assisi Church in Nesquehoning is as follows Thursday, April 21, Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m. Adoration will take place in the social hall after the Mass until 11 p.m.Good Friday, April 22, The Passion of the Lord at 3 p.m.Blessing of the Food baskets on Saturday, April 23 at 3 p.m.Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. (only one Mass that day).Easter Sunday, April 24 at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.First communionSt. Francis of Assisi Church will hold its first rehearsal for the First Holy Communion class on Monday after Easter, April 25 at 7 p.m.OMEGAThe OMEGA Health Screening will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 7-9:30 a.m., at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Nesquehoning. There is a fee for the service. Please call to preregister 1-800-776-6342, Monday though Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The service is sponsored by the Nesquehoning Woman's Club.
