Flames destroyed the Lehigh Valley railroad bridge over Stoney Creek, five miles north of Penn Haven Junction, and forced the re-routing of main line trains via Weatherly and Hayes Creek until a new structure is erected. Repairs were being made to the bridge and a hot rivet coming in contact with some woodwork is blamed for the start of the blaze. The destroyed span was 75 feet in length and 30 feet above the stream. It was of timber and steel construction.
