Carbon County's Special Olympians in training

The Special Olympians of Carbon County are currently in training for their competition during the upcoming Summer months.

They are preparing for their athletic meets under the direction and guidance of Head Coach Dave Rodrigues, Assistant Coaches Drew Benyo and Maureen Foster with the assistance of several student helpers and volunteers.Their first scheduled competition will be on April 30th at the Eastern Spring Sectionals which are held at Kutztown University.At Kutztown University, the Carbon County Special Olympians will be competing with other athletes from throughout Eastern Pennsylvania.On May 21st, during the Jim Thorpe Birthday Weekend Celebration, the local athletes will compete with nearby counties at the JTAHS sports complex.Their final competition of the year will be at the State Summer Games which will be held at Penn State on June 9th, 10th, and 11th.The Special Olympics of Carbon County is always welcoming new volunteers and coaches.Anyone who may be interested in more information on Special Olympics and volunteering can visit their website at specialolympicscarboncounty.com
