At Walnutport's Borough Council Meeting on Thursday Jennifer Wentz, Chairwoman of the Recreation Committee advised the Board that the fencing for Field 2 on the Lincoln Avenue side is in poor shape and needs some repair. A resident in the audience said he put the fence in 15 years ago and the materials used were not the best, so it's understandable that repair is needed. The Council said they needed to know the extent of the repairs before they can make a decision.

A landlord ordinance that subjects landlords to inspections of their rental unit whenever the status quo is changed is in Walnutport's future. Landlords, whose rental units pass an inspection will be issued a license, which must be renewed annually. Because this is all very new, the Council will need to find someone to perform inspections, as well. Additional work to be done before implementing the ordinance includes setting fees and developing a landlord questionnaire. A draft of the ordinance is being prepared by the borough solicitor, Michael Corriere.Tim Dennis, a resident and landlord, commented that Section 8 housing is already subjected to inspections. He recommended that the Borough not require a second inspection of those units. Dennis said if a landlord was subjected to two inspections, that cost would only be passed onto the tenant, and they are already in a perilous financial situation. The Council agreed as long as they received certification of the inspection.In other discussions, the Council said that under the garbage ordinance, someone cannot take trash and put it into someone else's container, nor can they bury it. If a home is vacant, they are not required to pay for garbage.
