Zions Lutheran Church in Weatherly planning special services

Zions Lutheran Church, Third and Fell Streets in Weatherly is planning several special services and events in April and May.

This Sunday the congregation will celebrate Christ Triumphal entry into Jerusalem with a Palm Sunday Service. Pastor Richard Hinkle will lead the worship service.As a special addition to this year's service music will be provided by Sherri Trometter, Harpist. She will play the popular Palm Sunday hymen "The Palms" as the prelude and will accompany the choir in the anthem "The Holy City." She will also play other selections during the service. Sherri plays a 38 string lever harp. She is well known in Central and Northeast Pennsylvania for her accompanying skills and providing music for many events. She has recorded CD of Christmas music and is currently a second CD of inspirational music.Members of the congregation will also present a dramatic reading of the "Passion of Our Lord" as part of the preparation for Holy Week. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be offered at this service.The Lords Supper will be remembered in the service in Maundy Thursday, "Holy Thursday." The service will take will be at 7 p.m. on April 21. Pastor Richard Hinkle will lead the service. Communion will be served and the Altar will be striped during the reading of the 22nd Psalm, in preparation for Good Friday.A service of Lessons and Hymns, "Tenabrae" a remembrance of Christ crucifixion and burial will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday April 22. This somber service features reading from the scriptures and prayers for the Christian Church and people everywhere.Easter Sunrise service celebrating the discovery of Christ's empty tomb will begin at 6 a.m. The church will be decorating for the festive occasion of the resurrection and special music will be sung. Pastor Richard Hinkle will administer the joyous Sacrament of Holy Communion.The 10:45am worship service will be filled with the traditional Easter music and ceremony. Pastor Hinkle will also preside at this service.Other upcoming events at Zions include the presentation of the Sunday School Children's Easter program on Sunday, May 1 during the 10:45 a.m. service. The congregation will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Rev. Richard Hinkle at this service. A reception for Pastor Hinkle and his wife, Gladys, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary will take place in the church annex following the service.On Saturday May 7 at 7 p.m. the newly formed Zions Dramatic Club will present their first production "Choices." The production will take place in the Zions Sanctuary. "Choices" focuses on the pressures and choices young people have to make in this modern age. The production also includes several very talented singers and musicians from the Weatherly Area. "Choices" is presented free to the community; a free will offering will be collected. The community is encouraged to attend and support this new ministry for both youth and adults.Bishop Samuel Zeiser, Bishop of the Northeast Pennsylvania Synod, will preside over the 10:45 a.m . service on Sunday May 8. Special music will be presented and communion will be celebrated. Bishop Zeiser is a native of Jim Thorpe and Zions is honored to welcome him to the service. It is also Mother's day and all ladies in attendance will receive a flower in honor of the day. A reception for Bishop Zeiser and his wife will be held in the annex following the service.Zions Lutheran Church welcomes all to our services and to be a part of our congregation.
