The Tamaqua Board of Health held its April meeting with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reported making seven spot check inspections during March: Tamaqua Area High School, Tamaqua Area Middle School, Tamaqua Area Elementary School, Broad Street Deli, Subway Inc., Fegley's Mini Mart and the Tamaqua Community Center. He also received and adjusted seven complaints: five for scattered rubbish/garbage; one for lack of hot water; and one infestation.Egg huntsSeveral Easter egg hunts have been scheduled for this weekend.Those submitted to the TIMES NEWS include: Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce egg hunt, 10 a.m., April 16, Depot Square Park, for toddlers to children up to the age of 10; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Community egg hunt, April 16, 11:30 a.m., Bungalow Park, for children 12 and younger; North and Middle Ward Playground, April 16, 3 p.m., at the playground, children up to the age of 12.Class of 1953The Tamaqua Class of 1953 will hold its annual picnic reunion on June 25 at Leiby's Grove in the Lewistown Valley.Everyone who was a member of the class is welcome to attend.Invitations have been mailed. Any class member who has not received an invitation, or who would like more information, may call (570) 668-1831 or 668-3109.SW neighborsThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet next Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m.The meeting will be held in room 104 at the Lehigh Carbon Community College Morgan Center.The group plans to participate in a neighborhood clean up this Saturday, weather permitting. In case of rain, a new date will be selected at the April meeting.New members are always welcome.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.The service will be followed by an Easter egg hunt and brunch.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Preparatory service, 7:30 p.m., Trinity United Church of Christ; Maundy Thursday, service at 7:30 p.m., prayer vigil begins at 10 p.m.; Good Friday, community service at noon, at Trinity UCC.SS. Peter and PaulPalm Sunday Masses in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. this Sunday. The Rev.William Linkchorst will officiate.Stations of the Cross will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. A Holy Hour will be held prior to stations and the choir will rehearse following stations.Other activities next week will include: Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m. with the church remaining open until 10 p.m.; Good Friday, Liturgy of the Passion at 3 p.m.; Holy Saturday, no morning Mass, blessing of baskets at 1 p.m., Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m.; Easter Sunday, Masses at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.Help will be needed to decorate the church for Easter. James Cavalerro will officiate at the final worship service in Salem United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m.A Palm Sunday service, featuring a cantata, will be held at 10:45 a.m. in First UM Church.
