New York man arrested in 4-year-old armed robbery

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said a New York man has been arrested for his role in a 2007 armed robbery that happened at Kinsley's Shop Rite, Rt. 209, Chestnuthill Township, Brodheadsville.

Scott Kwaak, 23, of Brooklyn, has been charged with robbery, burglary, unlawful restraint and other related charges for the incident that happened on April 29 four years ago.Police said Kwaak was being held in prison in New York but was extradicted on Thursday from the Riverview Correctional Facility in the neighboring state upon his release from that facility.He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jolana Krawitz and committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail, pending a preliminary hearing to be scheduled at a later date.Police said the investigation is continuing. The incident happened shortly after midnight April 29, 2008, when three masked individuals, including the accused, forcefully entered Kinsley's carrying shotguns and handguns. Police said the accused struck one of the employees in the face with the "butt" of his shotgun.At the time, the accused and suspects zip-tied the hands of 12 employees of the store before locking them into a large freezer. They then took the store manager at gunpoint, forcing him to open the safe and proceeding to remove a large amount of cash from the safe before fleeing the scene.Police said Kwaak was indentified through the investigation, resulting in his arrest and extradition yesterday.
