Michael Sniscak seeks re-election to Nesquehoning Council

Michael T. Sniscak Jr. is seeking re-election to Nesquehoning Council seat on the Democratic ticket.

Sniscak is a life-long resident of Nesquehoning. Upon graduation from Panther Valley High School he secured a position with Penn Dot as an Inspector of Highways. He was trained in blacktop repair and drainage. Sniscak resigned his position to attend Mansfield University, graduating with a degree in Secondary Education. From 1970-1972 he served in the US Army with both domestic and foreign assignments. While in the Army he continued his education and obtained a degree in Political Science through the continuing education program at Ohio State. One of his assignments was to teach career servicemen to successfully obtain their GED in order for them to meet the requirements to remain in the newly formed Volunteer Army.Upon his honorable discharge, he taught at the Packerton Special Education Unit prior to obtaining a position as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. On 15 different occasions he was recognized and received awards as the top counselor in Pennsylvania. He also received several awards for initiating new programs for hiring the severally disabled. He retired in June, 2004.As Chairman of Streets he wrote the initial $3 Million grant for the flood control of the Nesquehoning Creek, which has received $500,000 for Phase One of the project. He also requested the borough engineer to draw up a 5-year plan for the reconstruction of Nesquehoning streets. Project is to begin this spring. As Chairman of Public Safety he worked closely with the Chief of Police to ensure that the most qualified candidates were hired to protect and serve the citizens of our borough. As Chairman of Sewerage he put forth a plan for the rehabilitation of our sewer plant, which had been neglected for years, in order to meet all federal and state requirements. Phase One of the plan begins this spring.Sniscak has consistently fought for openness and disclosure of the council proceedings to keep the public informed of council business-so the taxpayers know where their money was being spent and why. He has also worked to ensure that all tax dollars were spent wisely and accounted for. If re-elected to this position he will continue to do so in the future.He is a member of the Nesquehoning VFW and the Lehighton American Legion. He is an avid hunter and fisherman and takes special interest in conservation issues.Sniscak is married and has two children and two grandchildren.
