Two Tamaqua men charged with theft

Tamaqua police have issued warrants for two borough men allegedly involved in the theft of a bank card.

Amy Wagner, of Tamaqua, contacted police in March after she discovered several unathorized purchases made with her M&T Bank card. The purchases were made at three Tamaqua locations during the time fram of Nov. 29 through Dec. 1, 2010. The card had been used at Fegley's Mini Mart on Center Street, Boyer's Food Mart on Cedar Street and Turket Hill Minit Mart on East Broad Street.Cpl. Henry Woods obtained the pertinent bank records and reviewed security footage from the stores. He was able to identify Michael Howard Startzel, 26, of 536 Pine St., and Joshua Allan Weaver, 29, of 219 Market St., as the suspects who made the purchases. The total taken from Wagner's account was $528.67. Weaver allegedly used the card Nov. 29 at Fegley's to purchase $411.98 in merchandise, while Startzel made the rest of the purchases.Both men were charged with access device fraud, criminal conspiracy to commit theft by deception, theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Weaver was also charged with a felony count of forgery.
