Dear Editor:

This is in regard to an article that I read in a paper on Monday, March 21. I agree with the writer on the matter but only partially. I agree the people of other ancestry have a right to fly a flag of a country of their ancestry, but only for certain reasons or occasions.If you are living here for a good number of years and a true citizen, you are American first. For I am 85 years old and I was born and raised in this country. My mother and father were born and raised here. My grandparents were born and raised here. My great-great-grandparents were born in Germany and the Netherlands.My parents or grandparents never flew any other flag but the flag of the United States, and that goes for me and my family also. I served in World War II as a radioman on a tank, with the 67th Tank Battalion, 2nd Armored Division. I am against flying any other flag except on special occasions.If you are a true born citizen of this country then you should respect this country as your homeland. And what you said about the Confederate Flag, forget that too. This is one solid country now not a divided one.I think maybe you need to go back overseas somewhere now. I have a lot of friends of Italian, Lithuanian, Irish and other nationalities. I respect them and they respect the Flag of the United States of America.Edward R. Rummel,Tamaqua, Pa.
