For a change, State Rep. Doyle Heffley was able to wear a different hat, albeit not a "Cat in the Hat".

Instead, the local legislator read another favorite book authored by iconic children's book writer Dr. Seuss as part of story hour Friday at the Palmerton Area Library.Before he read, Heffley told the pupils who came from Watch Me Grow Day Care, West End Day Care, as well as those accompanied by family, why it's important to read."It's a lot of fun to read," Heffley said. "That's something I do every day."Heffley then went on to read "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" by Dr. Seuss.As he read, Heffley paused to engage in conversation with the bright-eyed pupils who peppered him with chatter.Once story hour was over, the pupils presented Heffley with pictures they made of why the library is important to them.They then sang their favorite song, "I'm In Right, Out Right, Up Right, Down Right, Happy All the Time.""You were a great audience," Heffley said. "I really enjoyed reading to you."Afterward, Heffley told the pupils there were coloring books for them to take home.Heffley, who made himself available for a meet and greet after story hour, said he enjoyed the experience a great deal."I love to do this and make a positive impression on the students," he said. "They need to read; it's really enjoyable to read."Other events scheduled this month at the library include: the Barnyard Buddies, who will entertain the children and parents at story hour with lots of activities and live animals at 10:30 a.m. April 15; Frank Hall, who will present a free educational workshop titled "More Than Money Matters: Credit and Debt", at 6:30 p.m. April 19; and the Carbon County Environmental Center, which will present a free program about state animals at 6:30 p.m. April 26.
