A Free Education Fair was held at Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville on Saturday.
Besides free hot dogs, snacks and drinks there were door prizes (a paper shredder for an adult and an MP3 Player for a youth.There were representatives from the PA State Police for child ID and child safety seat checks, the West End Park Commission and Chestnuthill Township Recycling and Open Space.The West End Vol. Fire Company was there with one of its fire trucks, a big hit with the kids.Monroe County PA Chapter Board of Thrivent Financial was the sponsor of the event. It brought a mobile shredder on site from the Developmental Education Services of Monroe County, Inc., and for a $5 donation, people could shred any amount of their old documents.The donations will benefit Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization devoted to reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world.Zion ULC will be making 20,000 or more food packets for Kids Against Hunger on May 14. They are trying to raise $5,600 for the cost of the food. Then the food packets will go to local food pantries and to Haiti through the Lazarus Project.Nancy Joy Koch, Monroe County PA Chapter Board of Thrivent Financial president, said the point of the Education Fair was to make the community aware of what it can offer.
