Prothonotary's report

A total of 322 cases were started in March in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:Civil actions, 61; custody complaints, 22; district justice appeals, 8; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 24; ejectment complaints, 7; mandamus, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 20; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 32; miscellaneous cases, 4; judgments, 131; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 10. The office staff also received and processed 125 applications for U.S. Passports.Behrens' financial report shows that $34,959.65 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $28,934.25; interest income, $22.90; PFA Surcharge, courts, $50; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $50; custody fees, $500; data processing fees, $5,402.50.The prothonotary also remitted $4,536.37 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $78 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,340 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
