Work date reissued for West Penn Park

At Monday's board meeting, the West Penn Township board of supervisors agreed with a suggestion by RETTEW, township engineer, to reissue an earlier March 8 notice to proceed with work on the proposed West Penn Park East, to be located off Route 443, not far from the Schuylkill-Carbon border.

The move is prompted by weather delays.The document will be reissued on April 5 in order to close out the project before the June 30, 2011, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant period.Landis C. Deck and Sons, Bernville, has been awarded the bid for the project in the amount of $129,232.90.DCNR and the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission have informed the engineer that the maximum amount of soft costs which can be funded is 15% of the construction costs. As such, additional construction cost amount of approximately $1,200 is needed to maximize the $150,000 total grant.The DCNR and ESRC also have informed RETTEW that the maximum amount of soft costs which can be funded out of the DCNR grant is 15 percent of the construction costs.In other matters, the board approved a request by Police Chief Brian J. Johnson to attend a two-day training conference held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Allentown, on May 18 and 19, to be hosted by the Pa. Association of Township Supervisors. The session will cost $120. The board also approved Johnson's request to attend a free, two-day training conference in State College on May 24 and 25 hosted by the U. S. Department of Justice.
