Bath salts arrest made in Lansford

Lansford police have arrested a Coaldale man suspected of a bath salts-related knifepoint robbery on Sunday.

On Sunday evening, police responded to 17 Walnut St. after receiving a dispatch of a robbery involving a knife and the suspect left the scene, high on bath salts. Additional units from Summit Hill, Nesquehoning, and Coaldale responded to assist, said Lansford Officer Chris Ondrus.The man, identified as Nicholas Haspe, 30, of Coaldale, was seen near the location of the robbery. When spotted by police, he fled and jumped over a guide rail along Walnut Street and ran north toward Dock Street.Police followed him along Dock Street, and through a creek and wooded area along Oak Street, where he was arrested without further incident.Two knives and drug paraphernalia, including a needle and spoon, were recovered from Haspe. It was also learned that he was on state parole. Haspe was then taken to the police station and was picked up by State Parole Agent Frank Horvath and sent back to state prison due to parole violations.Charges are pending from the incident.
