A 'Tax Day' event

All the candidates for contested Carbon County positions have indicated they will attend a "Tax Day - Candidates Night" on Monday, April 18, at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

The event, beginning at 7 p.m., is hosted by the Lehighton 9-12 Project.Sandy Dellicker, president of 9-12 Project, said she has received confirmation from all nine candidates for Carbon County Commissioner, as well as both the candidates who are seeking the office of sheriff.All three current commissioners are seeking re-election. They are Democrats Charles Getz and William O'Gurek and Republican Wayne Nothstein.Democrats running against Getz and O'Gurek are James Holland, Frank Ruch, and Gerald Strubinger.Other Republicans in the chase are Bob Dages, Gene Duffy, and Tom Gerhard.Voters will select two individuals from their own party in the May 17 Primary Election to square off against two candidates from the opposite party for the November balloting.Two candidates are seeking the office of sheriff. They are incumbent Dwight Nothstein, a Democrat, and Steve Armbruster, a Republican.They are unopposed in the May Primary but will face each other in the General Election in November.Dellicker said tables will be set up for each candidate for a meet and greet session from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.The guest of honor will be state Rep. Doyle Heffley.The event will be broadcast by Blue Ridge Communications TV 13.
