Bike Night a grand experience

Dear Editor:

Lehighton Downtown Initiative Committee is currently planning for the 2011 Bike Night Event. This will be the 13th time the streets of Lehighton will be filled with the thunder of some beautiful motorcycles. On 8-13-2011 starting at noon and finishing up at 8 p.m., the day promises to be exciting; with a poker run, bike show, vendors, good food and live music.By no means is this only for bikers, but it is truly a family activity of sights and sounds. Since, Lehighton is located at the foothills of the Pocono Mountains, there is plenty to do and see, if you are not from the local area, Jim Thorpe and Beltzville Lake are only minutes away; these areas are both scenic and historical. Make a weekend out of it; enjoy scoping out the bikes lining the streets for blocks, then plan on venturing out exploring what Carbon County has to offer. If you have never experienced a bike night event, it's time for you to see what you have missed. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is joyous, weather is unpredictable and cost to amble around is nothing. Thousands of bikers will ride into town starting late morning, by noon it's hard to find a place to park, so come early. The town's park has sections of green grass and shade trees, benches are available, a water foundation trickles gently, and the amphitheater will resonate the music throughout the town. First-timers don't be afraid to ask for guidance in where to go or what to do, the locals are more than willing to HELP!Are you adventurous, are you curious, are you interested in rolling art, then a bike night just might be a place for you and your family? Yes, rolling art, some of the motorcycles are so fascinating; you wouldn't even want to ride them, in fear of getting them dirty, or something breaking. If you enjoy people watching, what better place, the streets and shops will be filled with interesting individuals. No fear, most look rough and tough, but most are professionals who just happen to dress for riding conditions, some are rough and tough, but if not harassed will leave everyone enjoy themselves. Bikers love to be around other bikers and people who show an interest in bikes, regardless if they ride or not.During bike night the only things that are judged are the bikes. Take the time to stop and talk with the bike builders, they really enjoy your opinions or comments. Buy a patch or maybe a pin, a hot dog or drink, become part of the culture. Proceeds will aid in Lehighton continued community enhancement endeavors. Join us on August 13th for a day of fun, excitement and fellowship.Michael Harvansportys@aemail4u.com
