Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for April, including the monthly birthday party on April 21.Other activities planned for the month include: April 4, communion; April 6, social games; April 11, shopping trip; April 13, craft day; April 18, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten students; April 19, Easter candy/bake sale; April 20, Salvation Army visit; April 22, closed; April 25, cooking class; April 27 sing-a-long with Audrey Christ.In addition to weekly sing-a-longs, daily meals, therapy sessions and social games, the center provides for hair styling and manicure service. Both require advance notice.The center will sponsor its seventh annual 5K run/walk on May 7. Pre-registration is suggested, but applications will be taken the day of the race. Forms are available at the center, 300 W. Broad St., Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Donations are also being accepted. The first 100 registrants will receive a free T-shirt.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center or its services may call (570) 668-6577.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met March 22 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 46 members in attendance.President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Jane Springer offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Birthday wishes were extended to Ellie Zakrewsky, Carmen Corch and Betty Turo. Zakrewsky shared a cake in honor of her 90 birthday. Readings were offered by Shirley Becker, Florina Martin and Jean Machamer.The group discussed the annual anniversary dinner, which will be held May 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company. It will be catered by Christie Joy.The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a session of praise, worship and Bible study, in the evangelistic style, will be held at 6:30 p.m.A community Lenten service will be held next Wednesday, at Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Drehersville, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The service will be preceded by a hymnsing at 7:15 p.m.
