A Carbon County man, arrested as part of a ring of 12 people involved in burglaries and drug dealing, was sentenced to a state prison term Tuesday in Carbon County court.

John Joseph Aleksiejczyk, 41, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve 15 to 30 months on a charge of criminal conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. The jail term is followed by one year of probation. Aleksiejczyk previously pleaded guilty to the charge.He was arersted on April 20, 2010, during a roundup of 12 suspects that authorities said were involved in a drug and burglary ring that had been operating in Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties for a few years.The investigation by agents of the state Attorney General's office and local police and drug task forces was called, "Operation Golden Dope."Aleksiejczyk admitted his part in the ring relative to the illegal sale of drugs in the county but denied that he participated in the break-ins and sale of stolen items. Authorities said the suspects would break into homes and businesses and removed various items. They then sold the items a pawn shops for cash. They then used the cash to purchase drugs for resale in the various counties listed. Some of the pawn shop owners were also charged.Aleksiejczyk also said he was addicted to heroin at the time of the crime spree and since entered a drug rehabilitation program and is now drug free.In addition to the jail term Nanovic ordered Aleksiejczyk to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, have no contact with any co-defendants in the case, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee when paroled. He begins the jail term at 1 p.m. on April 8.
