SWAT team needed for arrest

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported that their SWAT team was called in to help officers take a fugitive from justice into custody.

On March 18 about 8:51 p.m. officers were attempting to locate Anthony Long, 40, of Pocono Summit, who is a fugitive from justice since May 2009 and facing charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and related counts.Officers were searching for Long on foot in the main gate area of A Pocono Country Place in Coolbaugh Township, when they observed the suspect drive by them. Police were able to get Long stopped at the above location.During the stop Long refused to exit the vehicle and became increasingly aggravated and began shouting at the officers that he would open fire and kill them and the K9 unit that was present.The SWAT team of PMRP was activated and responded to the scene and were able to get Long out of the vehicle without further incident.He was taken to the county prison in Snydersville and lodged on the outstanding warrant. Police said additional charges stemming from the confrontation at the vehicle will be filed against Long. Due to the incident police had to shutdown the development and portions of SR196. Pocono and Barrett township police assisted as well as state police and development security personnel.
