Monroe crashes

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on two crashes investigated by officers on Monroe County roads. One crash involved the driver being saved by other individuals.

On March 19 about 11:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to a crash along SR940 near Brady's Lake Road in Tobyhanna Township. Police said a vehicle operated by Audrey R. Bender, 43, of Catasauqua, was westbound when she lost control and hit a tree head-on.A fire started within the vehicle due to the crash. Three people saw the vehicle on fire in the woods, went to it and removed Bender, saving her life, police said. She was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries. The three persons who pulled her from the car were not identified by police.On March 17 about 8:06 p.m. officers were called to the intersection of SR940 and Oak St., Mt. Pocono, for a crash. At the scene officers determined a Saturn operated by Kirstie Sweeny, and a truck driven by Christian Hieber, no addresses given for either driver, collided at the intersection. Police said they determined that Sweeny failed to yield the right-of-way to Hieber causing the crash.
