Rabies clinic slated at Lake Harmony Rescue building Sat., April 2

The 16th annual Skippy Dietz Rabies Clinic will be held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad building, 105 Lake Drive, Lake Harmony. This clinic is dedicated in memory of Sandi Dietz who passed away Nov. 2, 2008. Shots for both dogs and cats will be available at a nominal cost. All animals must be in a cage or on a leash.

Sandi spearheaded this clinic to combat rabies. Bitten by a dog a few years ago, records indicated that it had no current inoculation and she had to receive the four injections of the rabies immune globulin plus four additional booster shots. Rabies in vaccinated animals is rare. Vaccination and education continues to be the most effective weapon in combating rabies.Carbon County Treasurer Ron Sheehan and Monroe County Treasurer Claudette Segear will be on hand to sell dog licenses. It is the law that all dogs three months and older must have a dog license. Dog licenses are also available by calling the county treasurer's office.Dr. Sharon Lachettte of the White Haven Veterinary Hospital has again agreed to donate her time to administer the inoculation. The Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps Inc. wants to make this clinic a success to conquer rabies. Their goal is to do one more shot this year than last and continue this program for years to come. The rescue squad building is located 1.4 miles west of Route 903, next to Shenanigans Restaurant.
