Three defendants waive hearings that were scheduled in Lansford

Three individuals scheduled to have hearings yesterday before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek in Lansford all waived their charges to Carbon County Court.

They are:* Travis Williams, 21, of Front Street, Lansford, charged with indecent assault and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors.* Christopher Miller, 22, of East Ridge Street, Lansford, charged with forgery, theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and false reports.* Jerome S. Zemlan, 45, of East Ridge Street, Lansford, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.Williams was charged on Feb. 7 by Lansford Police Department detective Jack Soberick, who was informed that the defendant had exposed his private part to a young female on more than one occasion. He also allegedly had the girl, age 12, touch the private part. The allegations stem from incidents between Sept. 1 and Nov. 28 in 2010.Miller was charged by Patrolman David Midas of the Lansford Police Department with attempting to cash a stolen check at the First Niagara Bank of Lansford on Dec. 27.The affidavit says Lynda Fisher of Lansford advised him some mail was stolen from her mail box. Miller told police there were five pieces of mail he opened, according to the police report, one which contained a check made payable to Ken Herring and Son Oil Company for $212.16.Miller alleged entered the bank and placed the check on the counter, and asked for cash. When the teller declined to cash the check, Miller left the bank.Miller allegedly admitted to Lansford police that he had endorsed the check made payable to the oil company and did attempt to cash it.He said he "was walking around the neighborhood looking to shovel snow when he located the envelopes in the mailbox."Zemlan was arrested Saturday, March 19, by Patrolman Midas after he and officer Robert Shubeck were dispatched to East Ridge Street for a domestic assault.The affidavit says a woman told police that Zemlan "was intoxicated and out of control." She said Zemlan kicked in her bedroom door and punched her in the chest area, according to the police record."This incident was the fifth incident reported by (the victim) to Lansford police within the past 24 hours," Midas wrote in the affidavit.Midas said he had responded to two domestic complaints earlier in the day regarding Zemlan.
