Pa. Senior Corps seeking volunteers to make a difference

Pa. Senior Corps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) is looking for people who want to make a difference in the lives of people in Carbon County. Volunteers can attain this goal by using their spare time and talents and live a life that matters.

Volunteer help is needed to provide transportation to doctor visits, grocery shopping and other appointments in Lehighton, Palmerton and Panther Valley areas. Mileage reimbursement and insurance are provided to those volunteers who like to help people who need help now and then.Other great volunteer opportunities are with Family Promise (Carbon County's first and only family homeless shelter) fund raisers, the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program, Miller-Keystone Blood Mobile and with two sewing groups (Lehighton and Bowmanstown) who are busy making lap robes, walker bags and knotted quilts to be given out to local nursing and rehab facilities and to disaster relief. Always needed are people to deliver home delivered meals to shut ins. There is also an opportunity to help in Adult Day Care and long time care facilities as an aide with activities to help preserve the dignity and worth of our older generations. There are over 60 nonprofit organizations located in Carbon County who rely on volunteer help to enable them to provide much needed services.Call RSVP at (610) 377-2021 or email

zimmermanje@diakon.org for more information. RSVP provides insurance (free) to all enrolled volunteers from the time they leave their home, during the hours of volunteer service and their return home.
