For the last four years, Jordyn Homyak has spread her athletic talents among field hockey, basketball and soccer at Lehighton Area High School.

For the next four years, Homyak has decided to turn her full attention to one sport field hockey when she enters college this fall.Tuesday afternoon, Homyak signed a Letter of Intent to play Division I field hockey at the University at Albany.For awhile, Homyak contemplated trying to play both basketball and field hockey at several Division II colleges Bloomsburg University, Millersville University and East Stroudsburg University.But when it came time to make her decision, there was something special in the capital city of New York that helped Homyak make her final choice."It was a really hard decision because I pretty much wanted to play basketball since I was young," said Homyak, who plans to major in Criminal Justice in college. "But going up to Albany, and seeing how everyone just got a long so well, and the fact of be able to get the opportunity to possibly make it to a NCAA tournament really change my mind."I am definitely happy with the decision I made. It took me awhile to go through the process, but coach [Shawn] Hindy helped me a long the way."With her college decision now made, Homyak can focus on writing the last chapter of a storybook varsity career at Lehighton as a member of the soccer team this spring.Homyak completed her final high school field hockey campaign back in fall by being named the team's, as well as the Mountain Valley Conference's, Most Valuable Player.As a four year varsity player for the Indians, Homyak was part of three Mountain Valley Conference and three District 11 Class AA titles, a PIAA State championship as a junior and a PIAA State finalist in her senior year.During her final stint as a three-sport athlete, Homyak was named the basketball team's MVP for the fourth time and has been named the soccer team's MVP twice in her career."She's a great athlete," said Hindy, who had the pleasure of coaching Homyak all four years of her career. "But, she finally learned to become a great field hockey player and great team player."My thing that I always say is, 'Great players make everyone else around them better,' and I think she kind of encompassed that. That has been a constant theme over the last several and I believe that's why we have been so strong."Homyak said she's going to take everything she learned under Hindy's guidance to Albany and continue to expand and improve her game at the next level."Now that I will be able to devote more time to field hockey and that I will be facing even better competition, I expect to improve my skills levels," said Homyak.Homyak also knows that what she experienced during the past four years as a member of the Lehighton field hockey team has prepared her well for what lies ahead."The entire team worked really hard to be as successful as we were," said Homyak. "It was proof that dedication and hard work can help you achieve your goals."
