Farmers vote for their equipment color

A Farm Family Appreciation banquet and dance is held each year for a multi-county area including locally Lehigh, Berks,Carbon and Monroe counties.

This year the something different was to wear clothing the color of their favorite farm equipment.Red was for Massey Ferguson, Farmall and Case International; blue for New Holland and Ford, green for Oliver and John Deere and orange for Agco and Allis Chalmers. As they entered the Hamburg Fieldhouse hall there were boxes in each of the four colors for people to drop their tickets in. When they were counted there were 103 tickets for blue, 282 for red, 262 for green and 60 for orange.Eight hundred fifty people attended the event with 600 of them being farmers. Friends and relatives have to pay for their meal which is served by Big John's catering. The project began 11 years ago when there was a drought. The Lutheran Synod wanted to help but could not afford to replace all the lost crops. Second choice was to provide the farmers with a night out just for fun.

Vicky Serfass, Sandra Burger and MaryBeth Serfass of Kunkletown enjoyed the meal at the appreciation night. They were part of a group of 11 who came from Monroe County.
