Lehighton Legion Post 314 to honor Vietnam veterans

Vietnam Veterans Organization of Carbon County will host a Vietnam Veterans Day at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the American Legion Post 314, Lehighton to mark the 37th anniversary of the end of the war. Members should arrive by 12:30 p.m.

Harry Wynn III, vice commander, will serve as master of ceremonies. The keynote speaker is State Rep. Doyle Heffley. Also taking part in the program will be Floyd Brown, commander of the Vietnam Veterans Organization of Carbon County; Glenn Troutman, president of the Lehighton UNO; Robert Rehnert, commander of the AMVETS Post 106; Fred Schaffer, commander of the American Legion Post 314; Mitchell Nace, commander of VFW Post 256; and Henry Desrosiers, director of Carbon County Veterans Affairs.There will be a salute of all branches of the service by Henry Long, bugler.There were 12 Carbon County men killed in action during the Vietnam War: Lansford, Anthony R. Giannangeli and William C. Whitehead Jr.; Lehighton, Ronald S.H. Christman; Leon D. Eckhart and Clyde R Houser Jr.; Palmerton, Neal G. Bollinger and Clifford L. Sell; Parryville, Charles R. Jones; Summit Hill, George M. Bevich Jr.; and Weatherly, Edward N. Beers, Paul Hunter and Samuel O'Donnell.
