Details released on two businesses burglarized

Tamaqua Police have released details of two burglaries reported to the department last Friday morning. Two businesses in the former Jamesway Shopping Plaza, BRL Groceries and the Fresenius Medical Center, were forcibly entered sometime early Friday morning.

At 4:20 a.m. that day, officers were dispatched to the medical center, 1215 E. Broad St., after an employee arrived for work and found the place had been ransacked. The suspect(s) entered the building by breaking a lock on the rear door. Every room in the building had been ransacked, several other door locks had been smashed and a number of items were missing. They included two Dell laptop computers, an automatic external defibrillator machine, coins, snacks and ear thermometers. While Corporal Dwayne Hacker was processing the scene at the medical center, Patrolman Matt Houser was checking on the condition of the other businesses at the plaza. He discovered an open door at the rear of the BRL Outlet. The door had been pried open sometime after Houser's 1:20 a.m. patrol of the area. A five foot gun safe had been removed from the manager's office. The safe had been bolted to the floor and contained the employees paychecks. The checks were processed by ADP and local retailers were warned to be cautious about cashing such checks.Anyone who may have information, or who is presented with an ADP payroll check, is asked to contact Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods at (570) 668-6100 or 668-5000.
