Women's Club

After a two-month winter hiatus the Western Pocono Women's Club will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, March 21, at the Effort Methodist Church. This will be a social evening and a chance to catch up on the club's business.Membership in the WPWC is open to women 18 years and older seeking to help their community. The members have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, exchange ideas, and form lifelong friendships. The WPWC sponsors two scholarships for local high school women. Check the club website

wpwomensclub@gmail.com.Pride in ChestnuthillThe last scheduled meeting for Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC), March 10, was canceled due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 31, in the township building.PIC hopes to set up its first field day for April 9, meeting at 8 a.m., at the township building, located on Route 715. The rain date for the field day is April 16.At that meeting, the future will be discussed as well as roads that are littered. PIC is in desperate need of volunteers to help. It only involves about two hours on a Saturday morning and approximately five to six times a year.For further information call (570) 992-7247 or (570) 992-5258.Memorial ServiceA memorial service will be held for Richard Balentine at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at Effort UMC.Cribs neededSeveral agencies will now need new cribs in light of new safety mandates. Among them is the Pregnancy Resource of the Poconos. The agency can be reached at (570) 424-0373.Much helpFebruary statistics from the county for the six tax-dollar supported food pantries has the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network again serving the most client families, although the Pocono Mountain Ecumenical Hunger Ministry served larger family groups. The six food pantries together touched the lives of over 3,000 persons in need in one month.Lioness meetThe Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, at the American Legion. Special desserts and coffee will be served.Irish paradeWest Enders will be among the folks participating in the annual Monroe County St. Patrick's Parade. It is being held Sunday, March 20, between the boroughs of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg.Pocono Parkinson'sThe monthly gathering for the Pocono Parkinson's Support Group will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, at the Loder Building in East Stroudsburg. The meeting is free and open to the public. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour and is held at Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg. Bill and Tiffany Doyle will speak about snakes and reptiles and are expected to bring along a few of their slithery friends.The club's next community service project is holding a Red Cross blood drive, its second annual, on Thursday, March 31, at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert. Donations will be accepted from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.Historical SocietyChestnuthill Township's Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building.Zion SeniorsThe next gathering of the Zion Seniors will be held at 11 a.m., St. Patrick's Day. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided. Monroe Seniors also use Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville facilities. This group meets there every Wednesday and Friday, beginning at 11 a.m.Rotary mixerThe West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly evening meeting Thursday, March 17. It will be a membership mixer and will be held at Ye Olde Saylors Inn at 7 p.m. You are invited to attend, learn more about the rotary and network with area business people.Talent nightChestnuthill's PTO Family Fun Night Talent Show will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 19 at the PVHS new auditorium. Students will be sharing their many talents through a number of different performancesSpecial programsSimplify your Life program is being held at McMichaels United Methodist Church, Rt. 715 & White Church Road, McMichaels on Fridays through May 13 at 7 p.m. Led by Susan Bonser, this program gives one ways to "Simplify Your Life" with a different topic each week.One need not attend all sessions to get the most from each topic.
