Insurance notices have nothing to do with joint water authority

Lansford residents have been getting notices in the mail from a Lancaster company concerning water service line insurance, and the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority wants them to know the mailings have nothing to do with the water authority.

Instead, they are from a company selling water service line insurance. The notices are from the Home Service USA repair Management Corp. There is a paragraph at the bottom of the notice that says "Home Service is an independent company separate from your local utility or community."However, LCJWA Chairman Toby Krajcirik said he's been getting phone calls from residents confused by the official-looking notices. The company's mailers have prompted complaints in other states. In Feb. 2010, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Consumer Protection reached an agreement with Home Service USA and Home Service USA Repair Management regarding solicitations that were mailed to consumers in several Kentucky counties offering water line repair services. The notices' design and wording suggested the service was a mandatory fee levied by the local utility company. Under the agreement, Home Service sent corrective letters to residents and refunds offered.
