Hromyak is AD of Year

Tamaqua Area School District Athletic Director Mike Hromyak has been named the 2011 Pennsylvania Region II Athletic Director of the Year by the Pa. State Athletic Directors Association (PSADA).

Region II includes athletic directors from PIAA Districts 2, 4 and 11.Hromyak has been previously recognized for his efforts in directing Tamaqua Area's sports programs. He was selected as the 2005 Schuylkill League Athletic Director of the Year and the 2003 District 11 Robert Stimmel Award winner as the league's representative as the District 11 Athletic Director of the Year."I am extremely honored to be recognized by my colleagues in our state association with this award," said Hromyak. "I am fortunate to have been surrounded by excellent administration, coaches, faculty and staff, and student-athletes during my tenure at Tamaqua."This award could not have been possible without the recommendation of my colleagues in the Schuylkill League and for that I am very grateful."In 1996, Hromyak earned the Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) designation from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). At the state level, he has served as a delegate to the PSADA Delegate Assembly and is a Pa. Registered Athletic Director.Hromyak is a member of the District 11 Athletic Directors Association and serves on its Cheerleading Committee, Officials Salary Committee, and Girls Soccer Committee. He also serves on the Eastern Football Conference Steering Committee and is the secretary of the Anthracite Football League.Hromyak is chairman for Schuylkill League boys and girls soccer and serves as championship tournament director. His efforts were influential in the formation of the Schuylkill girls soccer league in 2001. He also serves on the league Constitution/By-Law Committee.Hromyak served four years as president of the Schuylkill League Athletic Directors Association from 2001-2005 and two years prior as its vice president.Hromyak has also previously worked as a volunteer baseball coach. He is currently a youth soccer coach and youth softball coach.Hromyak serves as treasurer of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC), an intermunicipal organization based in the Tamaqua area.Hromyak has an undergraduate degree in physical education and a masters degree in sports management, both from East Stroudsburg University. He and his wife, Paula, have two children, Alexa, 12, and Rebekah, 9.PSADA will honor Hromyak for his service to athletics, student-athletes and fellow athletic administrators at its annual awards banquet on March 24 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.
