3 projects to cost district $90,000

A trio of projects could cost Palmerton Area School District over $90,000

The district received bids for the high school maintenance roof replacement, Towamensing Elementary deck replacement, and high school chemistry lab improvements on Thursday.Fourmen submitted the apparent low bid of $19,025 for the high school maintenance roof replacement. That bid was $1,675 less than the next lowest bid of $20,700 by L&K Construction. Other companies that bid on the project were Hutchinson ($20,831); FJ Lesher General Contractor ($22,000); Home Solutions ($23,510); and ERX Roofing ($24,000).Home Solutions turned in the apparent low bid of $15,307 for the Towamensing Elementary deck replacement project, which was $3,593 less than the next lowest proposal of $18,900 for Fourmen Construction. Other bids were from L&K Construction Services, Inc. ($19,800); and Bill Ankis Company, Inc. ($33,163).As for the high school chemistry lab improvements, FJ Lesher General Contractor turned in the apparent low bid of $55,900, which was $15,050 less than the next lowest bid of $70,950 from Marx Sheet Metal. Bognet bid $77,574.Based on the apparent low bids for the three projects, the total cost would be $90,232.Superintendent Carol Boyce said contracts could be awarded on all three projects when the school board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.In January, the board, on a 7-1 vote, approved Barry Isett & Associates to move forward with various projects. Essentially, the board approved, in concept, years one and two with investigation and design at a cost of about $4,808,400.At a workshop held earlier that month, the committee was presented with an updated list of projects as part of a three-year construction plan that totals about $5,309,950.In December, the board agreed to adopt a resolution to borrow $5 million and restructure its 2006 bond issue.
