Panther Valley Golden Agers will resume their meetings on Monday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall, Summit Hill.The hall is handicapped accessible.Chorus practice will begin at 11 a.m. (weather permitting).Hospitality for March and April are Sue Dopira, Verna Lazorchik and Betty Marek.Members are asked to wear green in honor of St. Patrick's Day for the meeting.Summit HillBorough positionsSummit Hill Borough Council is accepting letters of interest from persons interested in serving on appointed boards in the community.There are currently vacancies that exist on the Planning Commission, Water Authority, Zoning Hearing Board and the Recreation Commission.Anyone interested in being considered for appointment to these positions is asked to submit a letter of interest at the borough office, 40 W. Joseph Weber, president, will chair the session.St. Paul LutheranSt. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold an Ash Wednesday service tonight at 7 o'clock in the church.Cat licensingSummit Hill Borough officials remind residents the borough has a cat ordinance that requires owners of cats to obtain a license for the pet.The fee is $5, which includes $4 for the license and $1 for registration and the registration tag.Any person who presents a certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian stating the cat has been spayed or neutered is entitled to a reduction of $2 off the license fee for each annual renewal.The licenses are available at the office of borough secretary Kira Michalik during regular business hours.Scripture sharingThe weekly scripture sharing sessions sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m. in the parish rectory.Choir rehearsalthe choir of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will rehearse tonight after the Ash Wednesday Mass. Bob Ames, director, will be in charge.Zion Lutheran ChurchThe beginning of Lent will be observed on Ash Wednesday, March 9, with a service at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Summit Hill and a service on Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning. Visitors are always welcome.A healing service including prayer, scripture and the laying on of hands will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 9 a.m.Church council will meet on Sunday March 13 immediately following morning worship service.Next week's midweek Lenten service will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Summit Hill. Soup and sandwich served at 6:15 p.m., and worship at 7 p.m. The lesson is on "The Faith of Noah."Coffeehouse for World Hunger will be held on Saturday, March 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Third and Iron streets, Lehighton at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.LansfordSt. JohnSt. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will begin Lent with an Ash Wednesday service on March 9, service at 7 p.m. The service will include the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion for all who wish to participate in that way.
