Man critically hurt in Nesquehoning

One man was critically injured Sunday morning when involved in a violent crash along SR209 in Nesquehoning. The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. as the man was traveling from Lansford toward Nesquehoning. He apparently lost control of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the rain soaked roadway with the vehicle crossing the highway and entering the north berm. The SUV mounted a set of guardrails which acted as a launching pad. The vehicle went airborne before impacting with several trees. The driver was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour before being freed by members of the Nesquehoning, Hauto and New Columbus fire companies. He was treated at the scene by members of the Nesquehoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported by ground to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Due to the weather no medical transport helicopters were available. Nesquehoning police are investigating the incident. Summit Hill police assisted at the scene.
