Eight area residents among 65 arraigned by district attorney

Eight Tamaqua area residents were among 65 who were arraigned Monday morning in the office of District Attorney James P. Goodman at the Schuylkill County courthouse and were charged with criminal offenses. All pleaded not guilty and requested trial by jury. They were:

Elizabeth Jean Ostrowski, 41, of 101 Pine St., Apt. 6, Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods, with 25 counts of access device fraud by using credit card of Brian Parrish, 539 E. Elm St., to make purchases totaling $1,785; and also charged with one count each of theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking of moveable property and receiving stolen property last September.Jeffrey Scott Hartz, 46, of 427 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Jeffrey Wainright, with driving under the influence (DUI), careless driving and failing to drive on right side of road last Oct. 31.Michael Todd Brode Jr., 20, of 134 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig II, with escape from custody of police and re-secured and resisting arrest last Dec. 2 after hearing before a magisterial district judge. He was also charged by Harig on Dec. 1 of simple assault and harassment of Justin Startzel and Ciara Startzel and disorderly conduct.Valerie K.
