Truck just misses house on steep hill

Just before 7 a.m. this morning, Tamaqua Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to the steep intersection of Market and East Elm Street in Dutch Hill, Tamaqua. While traveling up the Market Street hill and for unknown reasons, Francis Sabol, of Tamaqua, veered to the right and crashed into a tree located on the property of 234 East Elm Street, owned by Josephine Masakas. Tamaqua Fire Chief Tom Hartz Jr. said, "The tree definitely stopped him from driving into the home." Sabol was taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale via Tamaqua Ambulance. Tamaqua Police Chief Dave Mattson is investigating. Tamaqua Fire Police detoured morning traffic around the scene while the vehicle was removed.
