Two injured in Schuylkill crash

Two persons were injured and flown to a Lehigh Valley area hospital on Tuesday morning following a one-vehicle crash along a Schuylkill County roadway. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 7:40 a.m. in the area of 922 Schuylkill Mountain Road in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said a 17-year-old juvenile from Schuylkill Haven was driving a 1992 Jeep Wrangler eastbound at an unsafe speed. After passing another vehicle the teen lost control of the Jeep.The vehicle traveled about 144 feet across the westbound lane and onto the berm. The Jeep then traveled 56 feet along the embankment before impacting with a street sign with the right front bumper. The Jeep continued to travel along the embankment another eight feet before rolling over.The Jeep rolled another 24 feet before coming to final rest on the driver's side. While rolling over the roof of the vehicle became disengaged causing a 16-year-old juvenile passenger from Schuylkill Haven to be ejected.The 16-year-old and another passenger, Jacquelyn Kowalski, 18, of Schuylkill Haven, where taken by ambulance to the Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club property. A medevac helicopter then picked them up and flew them to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers called moderate injuries.The driver, and passengers - another 17-year-old juvenile and Jacob Stroudt, 18, both of Schuylkill Haven, - were all not injured.Troopers said motor vehicle code violation citations will be filed against the teen driver.
