Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported on crashes investigated by troopers in recent days, including a hit and run.

The hit and run occurred along Bake Oven Road, near Hoffman Road, in East Penn Township, Carbon County. A unknown type vehicle was driven northbound when it struck the back portion of a parked Toyota Passeo. The driver then fled the scene. The incident was reported on Feb. 24.A one vehicle crash occurred about 10:54 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, along Trachsville Hill Road, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Kristen A. Romano, 17, of Lehighton, was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat northbound and lost control after trying to avoid hitting a deer. The car traveled across a patch of ice and struck the guard rail, then a concrete bridge rail.Romano sustained a minor injury and was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Palmerton ambulance, troopers said. She was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.Another one vehicle crash occurred about 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, along Polk Township Road in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Kenneth R. Svendsen, 30, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima when he failed to negotiate a left curve. The car went onto the berm and struck a utility pole. Svendsen was not injured. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.Troopers investigated a two vehicle crash about 2:26 p.m. on Saturday alog SR534, near Stoney Ridge Road, at the entrance to Pleasant Valley Estates, in Polk Township. Troopers said Ezequiel I. Alvarez, 64, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox northbound while Linda M. Audett, 31, of Albrightsville, was operating a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound.Troopers said Alvarez's vehicle began to drift into the opposing lane as he was looking for his CDs. His vehicle struck Audett's on the front driver's side. After impact the Equinox continued onto the berm and struck a snow bank. After impact the Cruiser spun and came to rest on the east shoulder.No one was injured. Troopers said Alvarez was ctied for driving on the right side of the roadway.
