School board votes to post sale of land

At Monday night's school board meeting the Jim Thorpe School Board voted to post for sale the property across from Bear Creek Lakes in Penn Forest Township. The property has been appraised for approximately more than $1 million. The board will post the sale with a commercial real estate agent.

The property is part field, part wooded piece of land across from the lake at Bear Creek Lakes. The Jim Thorpe Area School District acquired the land over 10 years ago in the hopes to build a new school on the property. A school was never built on that property and there are no plans to build a school there in the future."We had the property appraised. We know that the market is not all that great right now, but we are in dire circumstances budget wise. I would hope if we got a good asking price we would consider selling the property," stated board member Randall Smith.Board member Gerald Strubinger said, "We are exposing the property for sale to just to see what activity there is on it. It doesn't mean we are going to sell it now, but exposing it for sale."
