February 26, 1969 Jim Thorpe's pressing defense leads to a 78-61 victory over Northwestern and a berth in the District 11 Class C finals. After falling behind 8-2 in its man-to-man defense, the Olympians switch to their press and outscore the Tigers 26-9 the rest of the first half. Rich Kelowitz scores a game-high 20 points for the winners, while Hal Hydro nets 19 and Walt Schlenner tallies 18. Thorpe, coached by Phil Rader, also receive 12 points from Bill Klotz.
