Four-vehicle crash in Mahoning

On Feb. 23 at 4:02 p.m., Mahoning Township police were dispatched to the intersection of SR209 and Packerton Dam Drive for a report of a four-vehicle accident involving injury and the roadway being blocked.

According to a report released by Police Chief Kenneth Barnes, a female driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser was stopped at the stop sign on Packerton Dam Dr. at 209. A female driving a GMC minivan was traveling on 209 heading toward Lehighton and approaching the intersection. The driver of the minivan saw the PT Cruiser stopped at the stop sign.As the driver of the van passed Packerton Dam Drive, the driver of the PT Cruiser pulled out and struck the van causing it to go out-of-control, go up and embankment, spin and come to rest facing the wrong way in traffic. While this was occurring, a female driving a Toyota Highlander was traveling on 209 heading toward Jim Thorpe and approaching the intersection and saw the accident happen in front of her and the out of control van flying by her. The driver of the Highlander came to a full stop in order to avoid becoming involved in a collision with the PT Cruiser and GMC Van. When she came to a stop, a Ford sedan. driven by a male could not stop and crashed into the rear of the Highlander. All four vehicles were disabled in the accident and had to be towed from the scene.All four drivers sustained injury of various levels of severity and all were transported to Lehighton hospital. The accident is still under investigation. Assisting township police were Lehighton police, Jim Thorpe police, Lehighton firefighters, fire police and ambulance.Police did not release the names of anyone of those involved.
