Trucker in I-80 crash charged

The driver of a tractor trailer rig that crashed along Interstate 80 in Monroe County Sunday, which left the rig hanging off the median and causing a major traffic jam, has been charged, state police at Swiftwater said.

Troopers said Anthony McBean, 28, of Troy, N.Y., was charged but troopers did not state what he was charged with.McBean was operating the rig in the right lane eastbound when he started to slow down due to slowing traffic ahead of him.McBean swerved into the left lane and onto the grass median to avoid stopped traffic. His rig sideswiped a vehicle then continued moving on the grass median. McBean couldn't stop the rig due to icy/slippery conditions and hit the embankment, which was the overpass to Sullivan Trail. The tractor went over the embankment with the cab landing on Sullivan Trail below and the trailer on the embankment.McBean and passenger Roger Montigue, 39, of McDonough, Ga., were not injured.A photo of the accident scene appeared on the front page of Monday's TIMES NEWS.
