Nine motorists who entered guilty pleas in Schuylkill County Court to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, because of the seriousness of their drinking problem, were placed by Judge Charles M. Miller in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP), with electronic monitoring, to serve long probation periods to help them combat the drinking problem and some have to do short jail time.

Jean M. O'Brien, 49, of 427 S. Hancock St., McAdoo, must serve a 30 day sentence in the county prison beginning Friday, Feb. 25, at 9:30 a.m., followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP, including 90 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a $12 fee, was fined $1,500, pay $300 to Substance Abuse Education m(SAE) fund, $10 to Catastrophe fund, enroll in alcohol highway safe driving school, receive intensive outpatient treatment, perform 10 hours community service, driver's license suspended 18 months and when restored install an ignition interlock on her car for 12 months. O'Brien was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Duarte.Frederick Lee Schnerring, 54, Orwigsburg, was sentenced to serve a 10 day jail sentence beginning Feb. 21 in the county prison, followed by five months and 20 days in the IPP, including 40 days under house arrest and pay a $12 daily fee; also pay a fine of $750, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient counseling, license suspended 12 months and when restored install an ignition interlock on his car for 12 months. On a summary charge of failing to drive at a safe speed was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Schnerring was cited by Trooper Robert Kluge when stopped on Brian Road in North Manheim Township.Paul Joseph Gaburick Jr., 40, Minersville, must serve 30 days in the county prison beginning Feb. 21, followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP, fined $1,500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, complete safety school, receive outpatient counseling, license suspended 12 months and when restored install interlock device on car for 12 months. On summary charges of disregarding a traffic lane, careless driving, recklessly driving , restrictions on alcohol beverages in car and failing to use safety belt was fined $125 plus $250 costs. Gaburick was cited by Trooper Joel Zimmerman.Robert Michael Bann Jr., 60, Tresckow, sentenced to serve on probation six months in the IPP with the first 30 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily fee, a $750 fine, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient counseling and license suspended 12 months. On a summary charge of having improper headlights on his car was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Bann was cited by McAdoo Patrolman Robert Minnick.Thomas J. Elliott, 44, Schuylkill Haven, sentenced to serve six months in the IPP, with first 30 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily fee, fined $750, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient treatment, perform 10 hours community service and license suspended 12 months. Elliott was cited by Schuylkill Haven Patrolman Warren G. Firing.Tawnya J. Bowman, 34, Hegins, sentenced to serve six months in the IPP with 15 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily fee, fined $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, complete safety school, receive outpatient treatment, perform 10 hours community service and license suspended 12 months. On the charge of driving without a license was fined $200 and failing to drive at a safe speed $25 plus $100 costs. Bowman was cited by Patrolman Brian Pyle, Branch/Reilly Townships police.Bradley Michael Keppley, 21, Pine Grove, was sentenced to serve six months in the IPP with the first 25 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily fee, fined $300, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, complete intensive outpatient counseling, perform 10 hours community service, license suspended 12 months and when restored must install an ignition interlock on his car for 12 months. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was given a concurrent six months probation sentence and on a charge of failing to activate turning signals when required was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Keppley was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian W. Kotzmoyer.Craig Eugene Rhody, 22, Valley View, was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison effective Feb. 21, followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP with 90 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily fee for the electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $1,500, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, perform 10 hours of community service, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient treatment, license suspended 18 months and when restored must install an ignition interlock on his vehicle for12 months. On a charge of careless driving was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Rhody was cited by Hegins Township Sgt. Beau Yarmush.Stephanie Marie Schultz, 24, Minersville, was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison beginning March 4 at 4:30 p.m., followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP, with 90 days under house arrest, pay a $12 daily electronic monitoring fee, a fine of $1,500, pay $300 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, perform 10 hours community service, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient treatment and continue with Self-Help-Group, license suspended 18 months and when restored must install ignition interlock on her car for 12 months. On a charge of careless driving was fined $25 plus $50 costs.Each defendant must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
