Schuylkill family victim of scam

A Schuylkill County family fell victim to a scam on Thursday and it resulted in a sizable loss of money and jewelry.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the victims as the Murray family who reside at 2093 Fair Rd., in Wayne Township, Schuylkill Haven.According to troopers, about 3:30 p.m. three males arrived at the residence in an "off white" Ford Flex and pulled into the driveway.The rear passenger exited the vehicle and told the homeowner that he was looking for a property line to install an electric fence on the neighbor's property.As the male persuaded the victim to walk away from the residence the two other males forcibly entered the home and removed about $4,000 in jewelry from the upstairs master bedroom and also took $6,000 in U.S. currency from the closet of the same bedroom. The entire incident took about 20 minutes, troopers said.The following description was given for the three suspects. The male who first exited the vehicle was light skinned, wearing a baseball cap, light beard, about five-feet, four-inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, soft-spoken and no discernable accent.The second male, seated in the front passenger side, was white , no other description; and the third, the driver, was a white male, possibly with eyeglasses, no other description.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
