The Chestnuthill Township supervisors received a letter from Frank Tatusko, a driver education instructor at Pleasant Valley High School. In the letter he states that he believes there is a serious hazard at the intersection of State Rd. Rt. 209 and Old State Rd. Rt. 115 (Chestnuthill Diner intersection), a site of many serious and some fatal accidents. He has observed drivers running the red light and offered three possible solutions to help decrease the hazard. One was to increase the yellow light time, another was to install cameras so that offenders could be located and fined and the third suggestion was to increase Pennsylvania State Police coverage of that site to stop the offenders and fine them.

Supervisor chairman Chuck Gould asked township manager, Dave Albright if he would contact the State Police and have that conversation with them to see if they could give more law enforcement coverage at that site.Supervisor vice chairman Dave Fleetwood said he definitely thought that Tatusko's letter raised issues that should be addressed.Supervisor Chris Eckert asked if a letter could be sent to Tatusko to let him know that the supervisors were taking his suggestions seriously. It was suggested that they should wait to send a letter until after Albright had an opportunity to talk to the State Police to forward on what could be done.The preliminary plan for the Effort Mini Storage to be located next to the new CVS in Effort can now be signed since the outstanding $10,000 engineering bills have been paid to the township.Albright reported that the township has received four solid waste bids for the transfer station. The board decided to wait on awarding a bid."More due diligence is needed and checking of references," said Gould.Albright stated that he thought they had received good competitive bids and three of them were at no increase.Gould made a motion to table awarding the bid until the next scheduled meeting of Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. and it was approved 3-0.Don Zipp, the township's emergency management coordinator reported that West End Ambulance has responded to 163 calls so far this year and West End Vol. Fire Co. responded to 106 calls.Bernie Kozen, Executive Director of West End Park and Open Space Commission reported that the Sled Riding Day, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School was still on, as long as there was snow. There will be a Tai Chi demonstration at the park building on Saturday, March 12.Kozen said Rita Lacey of Close the Loop asked for permission to hold a Give and Take Day on April 9, 2011 at the Chestnuthill Township Park. It is a free event where people can give away good used items for others to take in an effort to recycle. The supervisors approved the request.Resident Stuart Thody asked why there was such a fluctuation in the amount of the checks paid to contractors.Gould explained that those were paid to the contractors who were hired for snow plowing and bad weather road maintenance and the costs were dependent on how many trucks were used and for billable man hours needed.Albright added that as of last week, the township is still below the cost of last year at this time for snow and bad weather road maintenance.
