Community dinner

From 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, a free community dinner will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. Enjoy a free meal and fellowship. All are invited.Volunteers neededThe Meals on Wheels program in Palmerton is always seeking more deliveries. Can you spare one hour a week for a worthy cause? Deliveries are made from the Palmerton Hospital about 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, holidays included. Each route requires less than one hour. If you can't commit for a certain day each week, perhaps you would be willing to substitute as needed. If you are interested in displaying your photos for the show, contact the library for more information.High school bloodmobileMiller-Keystone Blood Center's visit to Palmerton Area High School on Feb. 8 drew 30 registrants among students and staff, and 26 units of blood were collected 19 whole blood and seven fractions.Members of the National Honor Society who assisted with registration and recognition were: John Achtermann, Rebekah Ahner, Ben Andrews, Aaron Cook, Vanessa Evans, Jillian Farkas, Liz Hahn, Greta Hartsell, Kelsey Hay, Amber Hettler, Brianna Hoglen, Kalyn Lehr, Karl Pielmeier, Katie Reimer, Jordan Ruzicka, Steven Semmel, Cheyann Sensinger, Jen Snyder, Chuck Sterling, Abby Storm, and Derek Szena. Adult volunteers were Carol Papay, Lucille Rex, and Helen Steinmetz.Community bloodmobileMiller-Keystone's community bloodmobile visit to the First United Church of Christ on Thursday, Feb. 10 drew 80 potential donors. This exceeded the goal of 75. Although seven donors were deferred, 69 units of whole blood and 2 units of red cells were collected. The visit was sponsored by Erika and Kyle Ahner. The following donors reached gallon levels: Leon Techentin, 22 gallons; Helen Nonnemaker, 18 gallons; William Shook, 9 gallons; Janice Mack, 8 gallons; Jane Cervenak, 6 gallons; Ricky Kistler and Sherry White, 2 gallons each; Rickey Frey, Barry George, Barry Hahn, Kelly Heinrich, Jill Kostenbader, and Michael Shafer, 1 gallon each.
