Slatington Trailhead and D&L Trail update

At a recent meeting of the Venture Group, special guest Scott Everett from the D&L Corridor Commission displayed pictures of the trail construction southbound from Slatington to Treichlers.By the end of summer, a 15-mile section running southbound from Bowmanstown should be complete.Plans have also been approved for major upgrades at the Slatington Trailhead including a new gravel surface for the parking lot, landscaping, walkways, and wheelchair access for the restrooms and pavilion. This work is tentatively scheduled for this spring.Work on the restrooms and pavilion is temporarily on hold because of the weather, but only a few slates remain to be installed to finish the roof on the restrooms. The concrete for the pavilion has been poured and framing will begin with better weather. Completion is anticipated by early summer.Recent donations have allowed work to proceed and complete the basic structures.Additional financial support is expected from all of the local service organizations who participate in the Venture Group, but there is still a need for continued support.Items that are currently unfunded include electrical fittings and fixtures, commercial kitchen appliances, cabinets, and furniture. Individual contributions are also welcome and all contributors will be recognized when the buildings are complete. To date, they have raised just over 85 percent of the funds needed to complete the project.
