Slatington man arrested for punching police officer

A Slatington man is in custody after he punched a police officer who responded to a disturbance between a mother and her intoxicated son Saturday afternoon.

Kelly Boyle, 48, of 672 W. Franklin Street, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Lehigh County Courthouse.Boyle was arraigned by District Judge Rod Beck of Slatington. He is currently incarcerated in Lehigh County Prison under $100,000 straight bail.Boyle faces charges on one count each of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by borough police officer Rebecca Salorsky:On Saturday at about 1:25 p.m., officer Daniel Buglio was dispatched to the home for a disturbance between a mother and her son, Kelly Boyle, according to the affidavit.While inside the residence, Boyle's mother states her son is intoxicated and has been screaming and yelling, and at one time shoved and raised his fist to strike her before a friend intervened, the affidavit says.Buglio stated that while he was speaking to Boyle, Boyle punched him in the face with a closed fist that connected with Buglio's right eye, causing swelling and bruising and his head to strike the floor.Buglio wrestled with Boyle attempting to cuff him, and at one time Boyle ran into another room, where Buglio was concerned Boyce was running for a weapon.Buglio gave verbal commands and was able to get Boyle under control and cuffed and transported back to police headquarters with the help of other local police agencies.
