A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 2:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, along Long Pond Road, in Long Pond.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said white in color Dodge Shadow almost struck a patrol car headed in the opposite direction. Police turned around to stop the vehicle and found it struck in a snow bank after failing to negotiate a curve.The driver was identified as Veronica A. Fitzgerald, 23, of Pocono Lake. Fitzgerald was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was then transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test.The DUI charge is pending the test results, police said.
